True Gossip Girl fans would already know the inside scoop, but for the rest of you, the reality is that last night's episode of Gossip Girl was filmed at Columbia, not Yale. The above picture is of the lovely Blake Lively getting her makeup done outside Columbia's own Hamilton Hall (thanks, Ashley!). I was actually on campus in August while they were shooting this episode and watched take after take of the scene where Dan gets tied to the statue. (And Chace Crawford waved at me when he walked off the set to blow his nose!!)
As much as I dislike Columbia sometimes, the "there's nothing like Yale in October" line and the "holy trinity" of ivies line induced hardcore cringing. Come on, Blair, Columbia may not be Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, but don't lump us in with Brown! Every campus shot had me saying "No! No! That's Columbia!"
I guess I can't complain too much -- I still have no idea what poor building masqueraded as Columbia in "Across the Universe," and we do get credit for our cameo in Ghost Busters. However, give kudos where they are due: Yale may have more prestigious credentials and a higher ranking, but Columbia has a gorgeous campus and choice location that attracted the cast and crew of Gossip Girl.
