After the horrific devastation of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is a city that is yet to be completely rebuilt. In some neighborhoods of this once vibrant city, there is more crime and poverty than ever. Photographer John Rosenthal is paying tribute to the all that lost those two years ago. Rosenthal’s exhibit entitled, “Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans” is being shown at UNC Chapel Hill June 5 through August 15.

The exhibit features photos of New Orleans’ Ninth Ward neighborhood post Hurricane Katrina. Rosenthal’s exhibit is a string of eerily empty photographs that depict the immense loss and distress caused by the natural disaster.

Rosenthal’s photographs will also become part of Chapel Hill-Carrboro 2nd Friday Artwalk, an exhibit held in multiple galleries once a month. About 40 photographs from the exhibit will also travel to the African American Museum from August 29 to October 31.

UNC Chapel Hill isn’t the only college continuing to their efforts to raise awareness about Hurricane Katrina victims, schools all over the country continue to host alternative spring break trips and a multitude of fundraisers to help the relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina.
