The Real Presidential Debate Takes Place Sunday Night at Columbia: Third-Party Candidates to Square Off

Who else is sick and tired of hearing about John “The Maverick” McCain and Barack “Yes We Can” Obama?

Bueller… Bueller…

Nobody, huh? That’s unsurprising, especially after last night’s cat fight between the two presidential hopefuls.

Still, it’s time for a change of pace, everyone. There are several other people running for president, and they desperately want their fifteen minutes in the limelight.

And so, three of them – Ralph Nader (Independent), Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party) and Cynthia McKinney (Green Party) – have concocted a scheme to brute force their way into the public spotlight by hosting a debate of their own at Columbia University.

Does anyone care? According to Columbia Political Union’s Communications Director, Lauren Salz, they do.

“A couple weeks ago, we started talking to people in the Nader campaign, and it progressed from there,” CPU Communications Director Lauren Salz, BC ’11, said. Salz is also executive director of the CU Republicans.

Although CPU invited all eligible candidates for the presidency, Senators Barack Obama, (D-Ill.), CC ’83, and John McCain (R-Ariz.) have not made plans to attend.

“We’ll have more tickets than for ServiceNation, and it will be an actual debate,” Salz said of Sunday’s anticipated event.

For the uninitiated, ServiceNation is an organization that advocates public service, and both McCain and Obama spoke out on its behalf at Columbia last month.

In other words, Salz believes that the turnout for this debate will exceed that of the McCain-Obama ServiceNation forum.

Dare to dream. If they found enough people to fill the seats, I’d be shocked.

According to Greek mythology, everything King Midas touched turned to gold.
America has now almost experienced eight years of the "Bush Touch",in which everything a disengaged, dullard President and his henchman have touched turned to raw sewage.
Now America is on the verge of bankruptcy because London and Wall Street have been inflating and distorting the economy for so many years trying to create wealth out of a printing press.
If America doesnt vote for Ron Paul or Chuck Balwin the U.S. will be guaranteeing the devaluation of the dollar.
Then we can all say hello to tent cities and massive black on white crime as our country becomes a multicultural hellhole.
But even in the end, realizing that the Dems and Rebs are two wings of the same system, voting for a third party candidate would be the best thing for what its worth.

Wish I could be there, but I live too far away! I know many people who would love to go, but we will have to be content watching it on the Web. Posted 10/18/2008 01:10 AMReply
