Welcome to another installment of Random Shit UNC is Researching. Today’s segment is on absentee parenthood caused by the war. Turns out children who have abusive parents in the military are forty percent more likely to be abused or neglected when one of their parents is doing a tour.

It doesn’t make sense to me. Sure only half of their parents are there, so that’s half as much supervision – approx. = twice as much neglect – but also half as many people who are around to abuse them. In any case, it looks like the war is affecting civilians in the US just like civilians in Iraq, as the last profound study from UNC pointed out.
