Breaking News: Unidentified Individual Commits Suicide Near Cornell

Around 2:00 p.m. today, an unidentified individual committed suicide by diving headfirst into the Cascadilla Gorge near Cornell University.

The Cornell Police were immediately called onto the scene, and the body of jumper was recovered from the base of the gorge around 2:30 p.m.

As the investigation is currently on-going, authorities have closed off the bridge that connects Collegetown to Central Campus until further notice.

At this time, it’s unknown whether or not the jumper was a student at Cornell. However, this is not the first time someone has died in a gorge near the university.

Last month, Douglas Lowe, ’11, drowned in the Fall Creek Gorge, and in September 2007, Keith O’Donnell, ’09, accidentally fell into the Cascadilla Gorge while walking home.
