Apparently there aren't enough dorm rooms to go around for this year's freshman class (see "Full Halls Turn Students Away" in the Daily Emerald). Because of a shortage in residence hall living space some incoming freshmen may be forced to find housing off campus and miss out on the freshman experience of living with a complete stranger for 9 months in a 50 square-foot box.
The housing department is banking on people either moving out or getting kicked out to free some extra space. Everyone who applied for housing before September 17th is safe, but those who applied during welcome week will have to wait and see if they actually get to be a normal freshman.
As ridiculous and uncomfortable as the dorms were, the experience is priceless. It's a shame some of the incoming freshman might not get that opportunity.
