Thanks to its prominent location within a swing state, Dartmouth has attracted several pro-Obama celebrities, including Justin Long, Kal Penn and Olivia Widle, over the past two months. On Sunday, it was Rachel Dratch ’88, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live.
Speaking to an audience of Dartmouth College Democrats, Dratch emphasized the importance of voting on Tuesday, as well as why the students should encourage their politically inactive peers to do the same.
“You think of college campuses as this big political scene, but it’s easy to get into this idyllic bubble and not care,” Dratch said.
In addition to this, Dratch lauded the efforts of her former colleagues, Darrell Hammond and Tina Fey, in raising political awareness amongst college-aged individuals.
“The stuff they’re doing pokes fun at important issues around McCain and Palin without being mean… Hopefully some young people will get hooked in when they see that.”
With Election Day right around the corner, we’ll soon see what effect all these high-profile visits have had on Hanover residents. [Hint: None.]
