Sex and the City Prequel or Square Pegs pt. 2

Sex and the City Prequel or Square Pegs pt. 2

How many of you have ever wondered who Carrie Bradshaw went to prom with? Well your wish has been granted. Candace Bushnell is in talks to write a series of installments about her bubbly blonde heroine, but the twist is that the novels will center around a teenage Carrie. Bushnell’s first book in the series is slated to be released sometime around 2010.

According to the NY Daily News:

"Sex and the City" author Candace Bushnell is writing a pair of teen novels, "The Carrie Diaries," that takes readers back to Carrie Bradshaw's formative years in high school, officials at HarperCollins announced Wednesday.

The books give an inside look at Carrie's friendships, romances and how she realized her dream of becoming a writer, the publishing house said in a statement. The first book is out in 2010.

Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows of all time, as is the book it was loosely based on, but lately the franchise has been milking it for all it’s worth. Sarah Jessica Parker's adaptation of Carrie Bradshaw in a way made it okay for women to not feel ashamed about their promiscuity and gave them someone to look up to who allowed for no regret in her life. This is why Ms. Bradshaw will go down as one of the greatest female characters of all time.

But if there is one thing we have learned from the past, it's that too much of a good thing can be a disaster waiting to happen. Do we really need to know what Carrie Bradshaw was like as a teenager? My own high school adolescence was awkward enough, and I am not sure I want to read about one of my favorite fictitious icons getting grounded for not cleaning her room (Men, this would be the equivalent of reading an entire series of comics about Peter Parker before he was bitten by the radioactive spider). Carrie Bradshaw is known for her crazy fashion and fierce Manolos, not her Jordache jeans and acne.
