Admissions Admits Inequality; Does Nothing

Admissions Admits Inequality; Does Nothing
For many high school seniors, April 1st is quite possibly one of the most important days in their sad little lives. April 1st is the day when the illustrious schools of the Ivy League release their decisions. This year, the Ivy League (and several other "elite" schools across the board) had record acceptance lows, banishing legions of overachieving hopefuls to...the University of Chicago (just kidding!).

Despite these low numbers, acceptance rates among legacies have remained roughly the same.

Michele Hernandez, a former assistant director of admissions at Dartmouth College, explains why. "It's embarrassing. They don't want to come out and say, 'Hey, the overall admit rate was 10 percent but for legacies it's 35.' It makes the general public mad."

Kudos to you, Dartmouth Office of Admissions, for selling-out.
