Crystal Mangum, the girl who riled up Durham after accusing three Duke Lacrosse players of rape, is coming out with a tell-all memoir.
Now, now, before you get all up in arms, there is some good to come from “The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story.” For one thing, Mangum plans to donate $1 from the sale of each book to aid battered women. For another, well, wait… no that’s really all the good there is.
The book’s co-author, Vincent Clark, of course praises the novel and its subject. ABC11.com reports:
"It is the only definitive account of the life and struggles of the woman at the center of the Duke Lacrosse case, the alleged accuser," said Clark in a press release. "Were it not for the Duke Lacrosse Case, she likely would be described as a bright, young woman from Durham, North Carolina, who has had a difficult life."
Not to knock her "difficult life" but let's tell it like it is. What he means is, if she hadn’t falsely accused three young men of a horrendous crime, ruining their lives and causing two to transfer, and if she hadn’t created such a mess that the then-district attorney was disbarred, and if she hadn’t incited heightened racial tensions in the area… THEN she would probably be considered a bright, young woman.
Right.
