Hallmark Celebrates Gay Marriage

Hallmark Celebrates Gay Marriage

Joining Massachusetts and California, Hallmark is not only recognizing gay marriage but celebrating it. Hallmark is now printing gay marriage cards to commemorate the best day of a gay person’s life.

Along with the wedding cards, Hallmark has also released coming out cards to join the gay community-geared cards. UCLA ran a study that since 1997, 85,000 people have entered into legal relationships with the same sex. With the growing number of same-sex relationships, Hallmark has a new flourishing demographic to entertain.

The language inside the cards is neutral, with no mention of wedding or marriage, making them also suitable for a commitment ceremony. Hallmark says the move is a response to consumer demand, not any political pressure.

"It's our goal to be as relevant as possible to as many people as we can," Hallmark spokeswoman Sarah Gronberg Kolell said.

Originally from the Midwest, Hallmark has always been a conservative company but with an expanding audience, they have begun to produce cards ranging from getting out of rehab to difficulty getting pregnant cards.

Hallmark has given its stores the choice to provide the same-sex marriage cards at their locations. Surprisingly many stores have happily agreed to sell the cards and the demand is continuing to rise for same-sex geared greeting cards.
