Nope, that's not a headline from The Onion. There is actually a Rock Paper Scissors championship, which is ridiculous in itself. But maybe more ridiculous is that the winner gets $50,000 and a trip to China for the the inaugural International Rock Paper Scissors Federation Championship. $50,000?! Trip to China?! Well, I'm looking for the tic-tac-toe tournament, let me know when that is because I will kick some ass.
So the tournament is June 20-22 in Las Vegas and Penn State senior Derek Hines will be representing Penn State after winning the State College regional qualifier and getting the free trip for two to Vegas. Plus the contest will be broadcast on ESPN. WTF!?
So at this point you're probably reading this saying, "there's no way this story can get any weirder." Yea, well you'd be wrong, because as the Patriot News points out, Hines is "'80 percent sure' he'll compete wearing a bikini Speedo, hoping to distract his opponent."
So, if you'd like to see Hines in action check out the video of him doing and interview with Patriot-News reporter Daniel Victor. This is journalism at its finest people. I wonder if that's what Sam Zell has in mind for the new newspaper model.
