Some guy named Zachary Feinstein has taken this saying far too literally by declaring for the NBA draft...without playing a minute of college or high school basketball.
Feinstein, a 5'8" and 130 lb student from Washington University in St. Louis, reported on his website, www.draftfeinstein.com, his "educated estimations" of what his basketball statistics have been over his past eight or so "seasons" playing pickup ball. In his 04 to 05 season, he claims he averaged 9.8 points on 25.8% shooting, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, hoping this will make some impression on NBA scouts.
His website is complete with his story of how he applied and succeeded in becoming an Early Entry into the 2008 NBA Draft and with an insightful scouting report on himself, ala, www.draftexpress.com.
I take my hat off to this guy. In America, where thousands of kids grow up hoping to play for their home NBA teams or ANY NBA team, Feinstein finds himself one step closer than them all. Props to you, Zach.
As an avid NBA fan and a student of basketball, I can confidently project Zach to be draft pick number #31 from the second round.
So, remember, America, take those shots. In the end, at least you'll have a funny story to tell.
