Saturday two skydivers landed in Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium with the game ball before the team’s match-up against JMU.
Unfortunately, the skydivers meant to land eight miles away at the UNC game. While in the air, the jumpers decided to cancel the leap because of cloud cover, but when the clouds suddenly opened, the skydivers took a leap. They just happened to be over the wrong stadium at the time. Duke and JMU were in the middle of pregame warm-ups.
The News & Observer reports on the mix-up:
The two men immediately scrambled off the field with the game ball, and when UNC associate athletic director Rick Steinbacher was informed by a reporter of what had happened, he immediately called Duke officials to confirm the miscue and offer his apologies.
"In about five years, maybe this will be funny," Steinbacher said. "Right now, I'm just glad no one was hurt."
Wrong. It’s very funny now.
Sense of direction: Reason #97 Duke is better than UNC.
