Walter Meego isn’t simply a dorky man's name. Walter Meego is a musical duo comprised of Justin Sconza and Colin Yarck with more electro-pathic, space-age, 80’s-cum-future, Lite Brite-like, dance-rocking synth-pop up their sleeves than can easily be contained in a given music venue. A few years ago, the two were a couple of University of Illinois guys who liked early 1990’s pop. Now they’ve had songs featured on Ugly Betty twice, have been compared to Daft Punk, and are sweeping CMJ.

Last night, Walter Meego played at the Mercury Lounge, where singer Sconza wandered around the stage in a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt, Yarck juxtaposed in stoic stance, and DJ Andrew Bernhardt pumped his body to the tune of his spinning. It was a delightful and strangely choreographed performance, and the crowd adored it, one guy even yelling, “I don’t even know you, but I love you!” With Sconza's unusual voice, irresistible dance beats, and songs running the gamut from melancholy to elation, Walter Meego kept fans new and old bouncing, head-bobbing, and all-around thrilled.

NYU and Columbia students still have a shot at checking out Walter Meego this week at CMJ, as they will be playing three more shows. You can see them at:
