So everyone watched the election and saw the news programs calling states even when less than 1% of the vote was in (thank you exit polls!). Everyone watched Obama garner state after state. But I don't think everyone watched the concession and acceptance speeches, because honestly, if they did, Facebook statuses wouldn't be as polar opposites as they are.
If conservatives listened to McCain, they should be showing more class. One of my poli-sci professors spoke in class today about how she never believes in America more than when she's listening to a concession speech, and I'm sure McCain's is no exception. However, I feel like no one listened to what he said. Everyone with Facebook statuses saying "Texas should secede" or "I've lost faith in America" ignored McCain's speech. Whenever he mentioned Obama, the crowd booed, and I'm pretty sure it's ringing in my ears as a Baylor student. Obama is the new president-elect, give him a chance before you start creating groups like "The End of an Error: 1-20-2013."
But the people supporting Obama need to realize that in his acceptance speech, Barack wasn't cocky about the win, so they shouldn't be either. Presidencies don't come without their fair share of tough times and pressing issues. Obama will definitely face those, plus the added pressure of being the first African-American president.
Put personal feelings aside and give the new president the respect he deserves. Don't give people a reason to judge you based on your extreme Facebook statuses.
