Considering Emory's unofficial mascot is a skeleton, Halloween at Emory feels right at home. 

In general, Atlanta knows how to celebrate Halloween. Little five points, known for its quirky boutiques and thrift stores, is also know for its Halloween festivities. Usually you can find people in five points decked out in leather and sporting Mohawks, but when October rolls around, things start getting crazy. 

Five points holds an annual Halloween Parade which draws a crowd of thousands. Me and my friends were walking towards the parade area and started to get a sense of what we were in for. We noticed a group of three zombies walking down the street, followed by a group people dressed as ninja turtles. The parade was fantastic -- floats, costumes and just about the weirdest people you can find in Atlanta. 

Back at Emory, there is the annual Ridgewood Halloween Block Party, which started my freshman year. Hundred of Emory students fill up the tiny street lined with student owned houses. Each house has a different theme which can range from rasta romp to pajama party. Police are on the scene to control the massive crowds that come to the block party - so don't cause trouble. Your Emory card is your admission, and students of all ages are invited. 

Dooley's Ball was originally in the fall and took place on Halloween, however one to many students wound up wearing their costumes to the hospital. The Ridgewood block party is great new tradition, and will hopefully be for a long time to come.
