The latest lusted after celebrity is not in a band or gracing the pages of tabloid magazines; he's a heartless, cold-blooded fictional vampire. His name is Edward Cullen.
At first I didn't understand the obsession surrounding the main character or the sudden vampire mania. That is, until I read the first book of Stephanie Meyers' best selling series Twilight. I got curious when I heard people talking about it and saw hundreds of Facebook bumper stickers (which finally make sense to me).
Now, I've fallen under the spell of Twilight and its alluring characters and constant twists in the plot. With the movie coming out November 21st people will be talking more than ever about the characters.
So, here's a rundown of the series so you won't be out of the loop:
The book is about two high schoolers living in Forks, Washington (an area with the most cloudy days per year), Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. As one can assume a romance develops between the two of them. The only problem is he's a vampire who has to fight the temptation to kill her every time he gets too close to her. What makes the book so captivating is the sexual tension that builds between Bella and Edward and his old-fashioned charm. Sometimes you forget that he's the one that's supposed to be the monster.
I'm personally dragging my roommate with me to the movie at midnight on Thursday. The actor that plays Edward, Robert Pattinson, is enough eye candy that you'll enjoy the movie even if you've never picked up one of the books. Now that I've made myself sound like a complete nerd, enjoy the movie!
