Chief Illiniwek has been retired as our University mascot, yet some still insist upon celebration. Gibson City, IL has started an “Honor the Chief” day to keep the tradition alive. Quoted from The News-Gazette:

"It's not about an individual; it's about what the Chief stands for," Dickey said. "He's not a mascot; he's a symbol of dignity and integrity – how can anyone argue with that?"

Well, a lot of people can, like perhaps Native Americans… Supplementing this event will be an area gospel and music quartet, clown performers, and a pork chop supper. This much entertainment located in a city no one has heard of will certainly bring back the Chief.
