Bare Breasts a Symbol of Peace

Bare Breasts a Symbol of Peace

Last Friday, a group of women from Breasts Not Bombs exposed their breasts as a way to protest the war. One woman was arrested after police threatened to take action if they did not cover up.

This was not the first time police have had to deal with public nudity. On the UC-Berkeley campus and in the city itself, students exposing themselves are common occurrences, especially when it comes to political scandal. The authorities view such displays as indecent but the women from Breasts Not Bombs argue that war, violence and genocide are the true indecencies. A member of Code Pink, another protest group where members expose themselves, said that breasts represent softness and vulnerability, characteristics that cannot be used to describe war.

At this time, it is unknown what charges the detained woman will face. I wish them the best.

That said, the rules regarding decency are still unclear. Therefore, UC-Berkeley students and Berkeley citizens can expect to continue seeing flashed breasts in the future.

Really? Really?!?!? What does this help? Other then increasing the percent of guys walking around with erections this does nothing. I am as against the war as anyone that has at least half a brain, but i don't see how this does anything. Posted 06/17/2008 2:19 PMReply

Why are you against the war so much? As someone whu is Iraqi, I can tell you that your troops are doing great things here. I have heard the statistics about millions of Iraqis being killed by US troops and those are simply not true. You are not being told that Al Qaeda is really here and that they do not want us to be democratic and that is why they bomb women and children and other innocent Iraqis. You are not being told that Iran supports these terrorists here in Iraq because they want Iran to have influence here. For a country that claims to have a free media you in the US are ignorant of the realities here. Yes, you have a lot of free speech, but much of it is garbage. I see your broadcasts over the internet and it all is directed toward only reporting the bad and not the good. If your troops leave my country unstable, it will costs a lot of lives and you will then have to come back and make even greater sacrifices than you make now. Posted 06/19/2008 1:35 PMReply
