Every college student should master the art of napping. Just in case you've forgotten how to nap, The Boston Globe has an in-depth guide to the best nap of your life.
Here are a few tips they recommend:
- Limit your nap to 45 minutes or less, or at least 90 minutes. Anything in-between may result in sleep inertia, disorientation, or grogginess.
- Make sure you nap in a place where it's quiet and where you can lie down. It takes 50% longer to fall asleep sitting upright.
- If you get chilly, use a light blanket. Heavy blankets can make you oversleep.
- Coffee before a nap? Believe it or not, it works. Caffeine doesn't kick in for a good 20-30 minutes so by the time you wake up, you'll be all set to go! Talk about a power nap.
In the long run, napping does have its benefits, such as enhanced memory, improved accuracy and perception, quicker motor skills, and better coordination. Just make sure you leave the 1-3pm window open when choosing classes!
