RELATED: More photos from our vault! OTR caught Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a champion beer funneler, party hopping from campus to campus this past weekend. Check out the totally-real-and-not-photoshopped pictures here.

Think the New Yorker crossed the line with their most recent cover showing Barack and Michelle Obama posing as terrorists? Think again. When the New Yorker granted CollegeOTR exclusive access to its never-before-seen magazine archive, we were surprised to find Obama displayed in even more tasteless and offensive ways that never would have made it to print.

If it's conservatives who don't get the joke, why is Obama putting out a press release calling it tasteless and offensive? Posted 07/14/2008 7:45 PMReply

Rush Limbaugh is the "talking head" for right-wing conservatism, and he certainly gets the satire. It's the left that either doesn't get it, or gets it and still is crying like a baby about it. The New Yorker, in case you don't know, is heavy to the left. Posted 07/14/2008 7:46 PMReply

Bill Ayers, Tony Resco, 'Reverend' Wright, the list of unrepentant ex-terrorists, race-baiting scumbags and Chicago political machine crooks is banking up. Now we are finding out about the slum housing projects Obama's friends managed with tax money he helped send their way, the long line of America-hating radicals, socialists and foreign thugs who have enthusiastically endorsed him, his lack of anything resembling executive experience and his record of failure on those few initiatives he has been associated with. Plus we haven't even begun to plumb the record of all the stupid, inflammatory and resentful race and class rhetoric his wife has managed to bank up over the years in her public pronouncements.

By November that NY cover is going to be looking allot more prophetic, which is why the left is so panicky about it and is attacking the paper so viciously. You say the right has no sense of humor, but it's not the right squealing like stuck pigs over this.

As a long-time New Yorker subscriber, I'm puzzled by the cover. Maybe it's satire as Hendrick Hertzberg (sp?) claimed on the morning news shows, but to what end? New Yorker readers may get the point, but they already understand the misperceptions and misrepresentations that have followed Obama throughout this campaign. Creating a dialogue of agreement amongst a fairly small segment of the nation, in my mind, doesn't really advance the conversation. If anything, it strikes me as a cynical attempt to boost newsstand sales and to reclaim some of the magazine's political luster/relevancy. Posted 07/14/2008 8:29 PMReply

"Right wing does not get satire."

I am a Reaganite. I got The New Yorker's satire. B. Hussein Obama, on the other hand, went nuclear. I guess B. Hussein Obama must be right wing.

Who knew?

You leftie morons, lol - project your own bias, bigotry and fearmongering a bit more, will ya? You guys - including Obama himself - are the ones putting this crap forward because you're so sure 'the right' will do it - in reality, no one is doing it but you leftards. Truly, utterly, comical. Thanks for the entertainment. :) Posted 07/14/2008 9:09 PMReply

Funny, the Hillary supporters at the New Yorker bash Obama and then blame the GOP. Sounds like Obama accusing the GOP of racism, when he is the only one focused on the subject.

Of course if this actually was just parody, then so much for the argument that liberals are intelligent, because this was actually a great poster that nails Obama in ways that the GOP actually doesn't have the guts to do.

The purpose of the cover is not clear, although you have to assume it is a criticism on the conservatives becaue The New Yorker does nothing else. However, since many people have serious doubts about what Obama actually believes and stands for, it is not surprising that he fears many different interpretations. The New Yorker cover takes all the snide criticisms to the extreme. Begs the question visually. Riffing each motif to the max, it makes any further bullshit on these themes look like puppy poo. Posted 07/15/2008 09:08 AMReply

The left strongly dislikes the New Yorker cover because it is far too close to the truth.

On the other hand, both Obama and his wife are inexperienced, conventional (i.e., stiflingly boring) liberals bearing reflexive opinions only transitorily related to reality.

For example: more oil drilling will not lead to more oil? Hello, there are merely 150 years of history around the world against that wisdom gem!

Only if you have the intelligence of a dachshund is this "Change you can believe in."

Obama manifests his intellectual bankruptcy daily.

The problem with the cover art is that satire, in order to be effective must be "over the top". This was not at all "over the top". Both MO and BO have earned much of the slings and arrows depicted in the cover art. Maybe if the artist had shown BO as a White Man (skewering the "oreo" and "not black enough" themes) it might have been seen as a satirical snark. Posted 07/15/2008 11:12 AMReply

Let's be very realistic - the man has the least experience, the least dependable agenda and the thinnest skin in the history of American politics.

You know what I most dislike about liberals - their oh-so-earnest lack of any basic sense of humor! Their only humor seems to consistent of mean-spirited attacks on people who don't happen to agree with them, when they aren't demonizing them. It's actually pretty pathetic!

The ignorance and thin skinned attitudes of both sides continues to amuse me.

Maybe to be fair the next New Yorker should have a cover of McCain as the Manchurian Candidate.

Frankly, though Obama should be more worried about the article inside the magazine than about the over.

Pretty funny to watch the stupid conservatives yelling about how "true" that cover is.

republicans and conservatives are firmly detached from reality. Reality is TERRIFYING to them.

How's that $4 gas treating your SUV? Maybe if we drill off the coasts the price will magically drop. At least you idiots will be "psychologically" better off, as your idol chimp said in his speech this morning.

Maybe they can dig up a rejected New Yorker cover of McBush, his drug-addict wife and her narcotics, with a little graphic of how he graduated almost dead last out of nearly a thousand guys, somehow became a pilot even though low-grade types never do, crashed several planes, got bribes from Keating, and has flip-flopped (so far) on important issues at least 65 times.

Another rejected cover would show a bunch of newsmen and the networks all calling McBush a "maverick" while sweeping his 95%-agree-with-bush voting record under a carpet.

Oops, these are TRUE things (google if you doubt any of it). Can't have any truth about McBush leak out.

"The MSM is very busy right now. They're trying to delete any refernce to BO and any of his socialist pals."

Not half as busy as they are ignoring the dozens and dozens of documented flip-flops by McSame. They are also quite busy hailing McBush as a "maverick" while ignoring his 95%-vote-with-bush voting record.

Maybe Mrs McBush - the one that he cheated with and dumped his first wife for - has sent the MSM some of her narcotics stash and they are too distracted to report on the truth. That, or else the MSM corporate owners have ordered all anti-McBush stories to be squashed.

Keep blaming the GOP, you Obama tools, and never mind that most of the anti-Obama smears came from the Clintons. They're such nice people, really, and they'd never sink to trying awhispering campaign to sink an opponent.

Face it - you got that it's satire, and we got that it's satire. What you condescending elitists are afraid of is that the folks your candidate defamed as clinging to God and guns won't get it. News flash - they get it, too, and they also get that you still think that they're knuckle-dragging morons who don't understand satire.

WTF do you think is the point of publishing a magazine?

I've been all over town and can't find a copy. Hoorah for The New Yorker, they finally did something to waken their 37 readers from a 35-year-long coma.

Oh it is satire all right. The funny thing about satire is that it is an over the top play on something with a grain of truth. Obama and his supporters take such umbrage from this is that they more than a little of this rings true. No Obama isn't a muslim but he is prickly about the 'slur' that he is a muslim. The black power 'fist bump' was real and his wife does seem a little bit of a black power militant. It isn't a stretch of the imagination to imagine her this way. The Obama's probably don't burn the flag in their fireplace, but Obama thinks that wearing a flag pin is a substitute for true patriotism.

The cover is funny not because what it satirizes is patently untrue but because it is an over the top satirization of that which has an element of truth.

When's the last time you saw ANYONE running for POTUS being mellow about being even indirectly satirized? @ Anonymous: "Right wing does not get satire." While your readiness to categorize an entire political movement is, at best, ill-informed, you may wish to look at a number of the Right wing's political publications. It should very quickly dispel your notion that the Right wing does not get satire. Now, I'm not a Republican (or a Democrat, for that matter), but I'm not willing to accuse either side of being so intellectually bankrupt as to fail completely to recognize obvious satire. Of course, the two campaigns are another matter entirely...
