Dumb Criminals: Film Edition

Dumb Criminals: Film Edition

I love dumb criminal stories, like the guy who tries to rob a bank and writes a note demanding money on his bank slip.  As funny as that is, I think he's just been one-upped by Giovanno Venosa, a former member of an Italian organized crime ring with a "passion for acting."

He auditioned for and won a role in the critically-acclaimed film "Gomorra," playing a mobster who kills two teenagers.   Many rave reviews from the Cannes film festival later, the film was screened in a prison in Naples and several inmates recognized "one of their own" in Venosa.  Police easily tracked him down and now, instead of walking the red carpet, he's stuck in a cell.

I just have one question: did he really think none of his old buddies would watch the movie and NOT recognize him?
