Eliot Spitzer Avoids Criminal Charges; The Harvard Law Alum Must Have Good Lawyer Friends

It seems the infamous Eliot Spitzer will get away with his prostitution fun… except of course for losing his job. The former New York governor will not face criminal charges, announced prosecutors today.

Last spring, Spitzer was revealed to be a customer of the Emperors Club VIP, a call girl ring busted by the Feds. Turns out, the honorable politician paid upwards of $4,000 for women. The whole scandal eventually made prostitute Ashley Dupre very famous (for 15 minutes, at least) but cost Spitzer the governor’s seat.

An investigation followed, involving the FBI, the IRS and the U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York. Spitzer, a Harvard Law alum himself, must have found a pretty good lawyer because today he learned some good news. The Washington Post reports:

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Michael J. Garcia said today that his office had uncovered no evidence that Spitzer used public or campaign funds in a series of payments to a shell company, QAT Consulting.

"We have determined that there is insufficient evidence to bring charges against Mr. Spitzer for any offense relating to the withdrawal of funds for, and his payments to, the Emperors Club VIP," Garcia said in a prepared statement.

Justice Department policy generally discourages bringing criminal charges against customers who purchase the services of prostitutes or transport them across state lines. Lawyers for Spitzer had argued that prosecutors would need to indict all of the services' clients, not just Spitzer, to prove they were not singling out the controversial New York Democrat.

Spitzer must be relieved. If he had gone to jail he would have gotten plenty of sex, but probably not the expensive kind he is used to.

Laws are made to protect the innocent. People will always look at Spitzer's children and think about what their father did. Spitzer's children will always think that people are thinking those things. Their lives will not be what they could have been. Do not be surprised if they start having trouble in school and drop out of college. Spitzer should have gone to prison for a very long time to protect the future innocent.

Silda gets what she gets for staying with him. People will always ask her children why she did that like they ask Clinton's children.
