Harvard Self-Righteously Flips Off RIAA; Students Too Busy Downloading Leaked Lil Wayne To Notice

A recent newsletter sent out by the Berkman Center, Harvard Law's research program on teh intarwebs, kindly told the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) to STFU. In an article titled "Universities to RIAA: Take a Hike," HLS Professor Charles Nesson '60 and Berkman Fellow Wendy Seltzer '96 lambast the RIAA and encourage universities to ignore any requests for the identifications of illegal downloaders.

While the piece could have simply stated that Harvard does not have time to waste on the frivolous tomfooleries of the RIAA, Nesson and Seltzer took things a step further, essentially calling the corporate whores, well, corporate whores:

"The RIAA's charter is to promote the financial interests of its corporate members – even if that means preserving an obsolete business model for its members. The university's charter is quite different... the university strives to create knowledge, to open the minds of students to that knowledge, and to enable students to take best advantage of their educational opportunities. The university has no legal obligation to deliver the RIAA's messages."

Harvard Law alumni who represent Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Lehman Brothers eagerly nodded their heads in agreement: Yes, the Unversity's goal is clearly to promote knowledge! Not financial gain!
