This is my ideal weekend. Hit up a nice early brunch with Mimosas in Pacific Beach at San Diego State. Get lunch at a taco stand with some Tecate in hand at UCLA. Then pop into a sketchy bar on Telegraph Street up in Berkeley only to get home the next morning.
Well boys and girls, that dream is turning into a reality.
The New University reports:
The proposed rail network would be the first of its kind in the United States, carrying passengers from San Diego to San Francisco, with additional lines linking Irvine, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Anaheim. At 220 mph, the trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco would take just two hours and forty minutes, cost around $60 and serve as the backbone of an extended public transportation infrastructure around the state.
Californians seem to have taken to the idea. Polls show 56 percent approval for the program, with only 30 percent in opposition. Christine Dubois, a member of the UC Irvine CALPIRG chapter, also reported strong support for the proposed trains.
This might just be the best thing that could happen to a starving student that wants to kick it with his friend that goes to school 8 hours away by car or $165 by plane. And just think, no turbulence or traffic means study time in between trips; or even better, some party time while making the trip by train. This shit is ill. I hope it happens before I black out.
