Ripe Produce: Must Read Michigan Stories

We know you’re all out of school, but we’re going to attempt to keep you abreast on Michigan news this summer with a new feature. Similar to Fresh Cream, Ripe Produce will feature local UMich news that’s “ripe for the reading.” Here are five summer stories you must read.

University of Michigan employee Kara Gavin appeared on Jeopardy last night. Too bad she came in last place.

*  Yesterday the Free Press reported that a UMich alum was snubbed for wearing a Muslim head scarf at a recent Barack Obama rally. Today the presidential hopeful called her to apologize.

Michigan's athletic director Bill Martin confirmed that the planned renovations to Michigan’s stadium are still on track.

*  In the late 70s, Rick Leach set a whopping twelve UMich football records. Today he joins thirteen other men entering the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.

*  Kyle Clark, Portage Central High School’s star pitcher, verbally committed to joining UMich’s baseball program after he graduates in 2009. Expect him to be disowned by his Ohio State-loving father if he doesn’t change his mind.
