Texas A&M Apologizes for Paterno "Casket" Remark, Paterno Says He May Actually Need One

We have come out of our self imposed hiatus for this story out of Texas, as Penn State prepares to take on Texas A&M in the Alamo Bowl tonight. This time the shoe's on the other foot as a school apologizing to us about something one of their stupid students did. Maybe we should all just accept that many college students make dumb decisions, and forget the apologizing back and forth.

At a dual pep rally in San Antonio Thursday night for both the Nittany Lions and the Aggies, Fletcher Massie, a member of the Aggies Yell Team, yelled "Joe Paterno's on his death bed and someone needs to find him a casket." After the comment (at about :30 into the video) audible boos can be heard from the audience. The AP is reporting that Massie was sent home from San Antonio and Texas A&M's Interim President Eddie Davis and athletic director Bill Byrne apologized for the remarks.

Paterno, of course, took the whole thing in stride (like everyone else should?): "I think everybody has to take things with a grain of salt," Paterno said. "Some young guy went up there, trying to be funny. Maybe he's accurate, I don't know."

Way to go Joe. Anyway, Penn State will no doubt get the last laugh when they beat Texas A&M tonight.
