The U.S. State Department Rocks: Harvard Grad To Study Music Abroad
James Collins '07 has rockin' post-grad plans.

This VES concentrator received a Fulbright-mtvU Fellowship to "study one aspect of international musical culture."

Ex-Pres of the HRO, Collins plans to travel to South Africa, where he will document the effect of marching band music on youth culture. Obscure? Hell yes. But awesome too.

Collins was chosen by (so-called) musical icons Fiona Apple, The Shins' James Mercer, and Satellite Party's Perry Farrell in conjunction with a Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Why Bono wasn't asked to judge potential applicants remains a mystery.

ok, im all for this James Collins guy. Congratulations and all that jazz but the "so called" in parenthesis before Fiona Apple and others was un-called for. There the musical icons of our generationa and should be recognized as such. These days you either need to be dead or 75 still trying to "rock" ie Bono to be considered an icon. Let's start respecting the talent while their amongst us, and lets start leaving out the (so called)'s before their names as well. Posted 06/22/2007 12:00 PMReply
