If the U.S. News and World Report has taught us anything it’s that while it is not okay to judge a book by its cover, but it is okay to judge a person by their college.
So with that in mind (and Obama’s announcement only days nay hours away!), OTR’s taken a look at the alma maters of possible Obama veeps to see who has the stuff to be Barack’s right-hand man.
Check out what a comparison of these candidates’ schools say about their chances:
- Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell attended the University of Pennsylvania and thus has the (in)famous U.S. News rankings on his side. His school ranked the highest on the controversial list.
- Military man Wesley Clark graduated from West Point which landed highest on a rival list, Forbes’ new America’s Best Colleges.
- Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius attended the lesser known Trinity Washington University. While it doesn’t top the rankings, the school offers a political connection since Sebelius can claim Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as a fellow alum.
- Texas Representative Chet Edwards’ alma mater, Texas A&M, has strong ties to NASA, the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research—all important governmental organizations.
- Virginia Governor Tim Kaine may have attended University of Missouri for undergrad, but more importantly he is a graduate of Harvard Law, just like Obama himself. That’s got to score him points with the big guy.
- Indiana Senator Evan Bayh’s school, Indiana University, may not rank as high on U.S. News or Forbes but it does grace the top of other important lists, namely Playboy’s and Princeton Review’s Party Schools as well as CollegeHumor’s Power Rankings based on the maximization of fun.
So who will Obama choose?
Will it be more Ivy Leaguers in the White House or a keg at the inaugural ball?
