HU Student Named MEAC Woman of the Year

Courtney Smiley, a Howard Lady Bison, was awarded the prestigious 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Woman of the Year Award presented by the conference Senior Woman Administrators on July 26. Representing the conference at the NCAA Woman of the Year Luncheon in September, the award not only honors students athletic prowess, but an overall involvement in community service, academic achievement and leadership.

Smiley held a 3.89 grade-point average as a Clinical Laboratory Science major, and she plans to attend medical school at the University of South Florida. A four-year letterwinner for the Lady Bison basketball team from 2003-2007, Smiley was also a member of the MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic team all of her years at Howard. Congratulations Courtney, you stand as a beautiful representation of an overall well-rounded, intelligent and talented Black female!
