Goodbye Auburn, Paul Rhoads Is Heading To Iowa State As Head Coach

Forget Gene Chizik, Iowa State has a new football coach in town: Paul Rhoads. KCCI in Des Moines confirms that Rhoads, currently the defensive coordinator at Auburn, will take over for Chizik who left Iowa State to be the head coach of Auburn.

Follow that?

It’s a little coaching switch-a-roo.

KCCI reports:

[ISU Athletic Director Jamie]Pollard raved about his new coach in a press release Saturday morning: “Paul Rhoads is an outstanding and intelligent football coach, a highly successful national recruiter and has nearly 10 years of experience as a BCS coordinator,” Pollard said. “During our exhaustive interview process, he was the one candidate that clearly demonstrated both extensive experience and an extreme passion for and familiarity with our institution. In addition, and most importantly, he also has a comprehensive plan for how to be successful at Iowa State. He is a great fit for our institution.”

If nothing else, this game of coaching musical chairs is keeping things interesting.

good call by ISU!!! Gene was a dumb ass he ran the option at the 1 inch yard line instead of being a man and running it up the gut! Paul is a smart man and will be a much better fit in Ames, Iowa. Go Cyclones!! Posted 12/20/2008 5:38 PMReply
