We should have seen this coming. As college presidents around the country join the fight to lower the drinking age, one college president was enjoying his own drinking spree.
Robert Paxton, president of Iowa Central Community College, is facing criticism after a picture surfaced showing him pouring beer down a young girl’s throat on a boat. In the same photo, you can see vodka being poured into another passenger’s mouth.
At first when a reporter asked about the photo, the 52-year-old Paxton said he “had no idea what you’re talking about.” (Drinking an entire keg tends to do that to your memory.) But later, the president 'fessed up… sorta.
According to The Des Moines Register:
Paxton said the photo was made on July 4 at West Okoboji Lake. He said his 19-year-old son, John, who was a student at Iowa Central last school year, is the younger man in the photo.
He said his son was not drinking on the boat.
However, Iowa court records show that a day after the photo was made, John Paxton was arrested and charged with second-offense drunken driving in Dickinson County, where Okoboji is located. The younger Paxton has pleaded not guilty.
Coincidence? I think not. But back to the president…
Robert Paxton said the keg in the photo was not dispensing beer.
"If you want to know the truth, the thing was broken," he said. "I never opened the tap on any keg."
Asked what he was doing with the keg suspended over the woman's open mouth, Paxton said: "Nothing. The thing didn't work. I was laughing at them. You know, if I was doing anything, I was grabbing it and trying to put it back down."
So his hand on the tap was really his attempt at stopping the shenanigans?
Forget that smile, he’s probably just giving them a stern talking to.
