Lambda Chi Alpha Alum & DEA Agent Murdered in New Orleans

Former finance major and Lambda Chi Alpha frat brother Thomas J. Byrne, 40, was abducted on August 28th on the way to his hotel in New Orleans, where he was staying for business. After being mugged and severely beaten, he was discovered on the road 40 blocks away from his hotel by a passerby.

He died August 30th after undergoing numerous surgeries.

Byrne graduated in ’91 and joined the Drug Enforcement Administration a year later as an intelligence research specialist. Becoming a DEA special agent in 1996, he was assigned to the Miami field division.

The Bronx-native leaves behind four children—ages 2, 4, 6, and 8—a wife, and both of his parents living in Fairfax, Virginia.

Joseph Miller, 31, and Ameal Parker, 46, have been arrested with possession of stolen property and access device fraud after using Byrne’s bank debit card.

The New Orleans Police, FBI, U.S. Marshals, and DEA are all investigating the case.

Byrne was in New Orleans to attend the Organized Crime Enforcement Drug Task Force conference—I guess this proves why they should hold conferences like these.

Note to self: Never join the DEA.
