Thanks to a stream of chain emails warning voters not to wear any candidate paraphernalia to the polls when they go to make their decision on November 4th, some are left confused about the Do’s and Don’ts of Election Day.
Although it varies state by state, there is in fact a Virginia law that prohibits certain shenanigans from occurring within 40 feet of the entrance to polling places. One of those laws includes a ban on all “campaign material” within that 40 feet.
Since the term is unclear, simply make sure not to wear, bring, or say any or all of the following:
Obama Stickers/Buttons/Pins/Shirts, etc. This is a big No-No. In America, we have the right to vote for who we want but not to express that opinion out loud (only on paper).
“Who are you voting for!?” This is a surefire way to lose your vote and probably get into a fight with your fellow voters.
McCain Masks. You’re probably asking yourself who would wear this anyways but you’d be surprised how many people would get a kick out of this.
However, if you forgot you were wearing your “CHANGE” boxers (or briefs) when you go to vote, simply remove them just before the 40-feet mark, hand them off to the nearest person, mark your vote as a truly free citizen, and grab them on the way out.
Failure to identify any possession of campaign material can result in a $2,500 fine. In that case, you might as well cover all your bases and go naked—it’s better to be safe, then BROKE!
