On Sunday, the Orlando Magic crushed the Miami Heat 122 to 99. For Miami fans, this was a particularly crushing defeat, because their star player Dwayne Wade scored a whopping 50 points that, while wholly impressive, proved insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
And so, while Wade’s hot streak deserves its fair share of praise, the real MVP of the night was undoubtedly the Magic’s Dwight Howard, who, on top of scoring 32 points and 17 rebounds during the game proper, nailed this 75-foot shot during the pregame warm up.
Honestly, I’m not even sure what to call this shot. It certainly wasn’t a jumper, because, well, he doesn’t jump. In fact, that’s pretty much why this shot is so damned impressive. He doesn’t use any momentum to propel the ball forward; it all comes from his arms and the swinging motion he does. So, perhaps, the best name for this throw is the Superman, because only someone like the Man of Steel possesses the superhuman strength necessary to pull this off with any ease--twice.
