Princetonians aren’t exactly known for their athleticism, but Stephen Lamb, ’44, is an exception to the rule, as this 86-year-old alumnus can lift 325 pounds – the current world record for senior citizens.
To put things in perspective, that’s more than twice my own body weight (145 lbs.), which means Lamb could toss me (and probably all of you) across the room like a ragdoll.
If any college-aged man reading this cannot deadlift at least 325lbs., they should feel like less of a man. I know I do.
The Daily Princetonian reports:
Sixty-four years separated from his graduation, Lamb is still kicking; in fact, he stands tall — as three-time defending champion and a world-record holder — among powerlifters in his age class.
Lamb picked up the sport five years ago and has since taken part in four competitions, setting world records in every one but the first. In July 2008, Lamb raised his deadlift record from 315 to 325 pounds. He said he will lift 335 pounds in 2009.
Too bad John McCain isn’t as physically fit as Lamb, because if he were, he’d have no trouble fending off the constant barrage of “old man” jokes.
Sadly, Lamb appears to be an oddity, a Herculian demigod capable of super-human feats. Therefore, there’s no hope for the rest of us slobs – or John McCain.
