Isreal to World: "Peace? Hah! Peace THIS!"

Isreal to World: "Peace? Hah! Peace THIS!"

Okay, okay! We get it! You have a bad-ass military, but give it a rest, will ya?

The Israeli assault on Gaza continues despite world leaders pleading for a cease-fire in order to give peace a chance. When will it be okay for them to stop the assault? Apparently as soon as they secure all rocket launching sites used by Hamas. Great, in the meantime let's go solve world hunger and poverty and see if this nut has been cracked by the time we're done.

With the death toll now reaching around 500 (100 being civilians), Israel sure is doing everything to milk out all the sympathy they used to have for years of persecution and the Holocaust. The ones that used to get pushed around at recess are now the ones pushing and shoving every Palestinian in sight, without regard to whether or not they're civilians. Want a heart breaking quote? Here's one from the New York Times.

New York Times 1/5/2009

Masouda Al-Samouni, 20, said she had been preparing food for her 10-month-old son when the missile struck. “He died hungry,” she said in an interview.

Israel better start thinking of a new strategy before they become the ones looked down upon and maybe consider a cease-fire and start talking to Hamas. In the meantime, Palestinians need to locate as many militants as possible, smack them around a bit and say "Dude! You are NOT helping our cause."

Overall, though, I think the responsibility to find a way to peace lies mostly with Israel. They were given that land by the UN while every Arab country voted it down, so obviously the Palestinians are going to be a bit perturbed. But little by little, Palestinians are willing to accept that Israel isn't going anywhere -have you seen that military? It's definitely here to stay- and people don't like being invaded or having rockets launched at them, so now is the time for a cease-fire and working out some peace.

Come on, Israel. If you weren't willing to listen to the pleas of Tony Blair and Nicholas Sarkozy, then how about an OTR blog writer?

"People don't like ... having rockets launched at them." Well maybe Hamas should have considered that.

It's terrible that there are so many civilian casualties, but the Israeli government has an obligation to protect its citizens. If the US was being bombed on a regular basis by a terrorist group do you think we would just sit back and take it? Of course not (see: Afghanistan). If Hamas was less cowardly and stopped hiding in and firing weapons from densely populated areas, the civilian casualty rate would be much, much lower.

Try a little critical thinking before you post dumb things about a situation you clearly have only a very, very superficial understanding of.

There are rights and wrongs on both sides. That's why I said the Palestinians need to be more forward in finding out who among them is launching rockets.
"If Hamas was less cowardly and stopped hiding in and firing weapons from densely populated areas, the civilian casualty rate would be much, much lower." So the responsible reaction is to stoop to their level? I'll remember that advice the next time someone throws a piece of popcorn in a crowded theater at my head. I'll turn around and take out as many people as possible to find out who the culprit was. Thanks for the candor, though!

Israel army gathered 10 families in one house and then bombarded it. So far at least 40 Palestinians were killed reset were injured, they are all farmers and the medical teams are having hard time evacuating many of them.

More Israel war crime.

There was a ceasfire. Hamas chose not to extend it and fired rockets into Isreal. It's pretty obvious where the moral highground is on this one. Check the facts on all wars in the middle east. Every single one has been an arab attack from 1948,1967 ans so on. Isreal may be doing by far the most damage but when you provoke another nation what do expect? Posted 01/06/2009 1:57 PMReply

As long as Isreal thinks that their people is more superior to other human being, we will see more and more crime commited in the name of "protecting my super people" from the rest of the world. Posted 01/08/2009 08:05 AMReply

So it's okay for a country to do nothing while thousands of rockets are rained down on it's population by a terrorist organization that seeks to only destroy not negotiate with your country? Well it's not. Posted 01/13/2009 10:20 AMReply

Israel warned Hamas several times to stop firing rockets at their population before starting their air campaign. Then they warned them several more times before invading. Hamas increased their rocket attacks. What you are witnessing is war, and war is ugly and painful. Hamas is willing to waste it's people and resources on a war that is unwinnable.
