John Adams is Pissed

My generation has been plagued with accusations of political apathy over the years. Yes, I’m talking ‘bout my generation, the college-aged, leaders of tomorrow. The accusation seems to be growing more and more incorrect, however, due to the hubbub over the coming election.

Barack Obama has caused the flaming liberals of Miami University to come out of the woodwork and show that they actually do give a damn about politics. It’s a different story, though, for the Miami Republicans, whom have traditionally been very vocal on our campus. Why many even partook in the Ohio Primary switch. I’m referring to when many Republicans in Ohio switched sides to vote for Hillary in order to keep the Democrats bickering over their then unknown nominee. In Butler County alone, home to Miami University, there was a 200% increase in Democratic ballots. Needless to say, many of those that aren’t certifiably insane saw this as a big middle finger to our founding fathers. Now here’s the next “F-U!” to our founding fathers that’s going on right here at Miami; the love of party.

At the beginning of the primaries, Miami Republicans were in a split in thirds. Some supported McCain, others Romney and frightingly enough, Huckabee. In case you have forgotten, Huckabee was (and still is) the nut-job that wanted to get rid of our Bill of Rights and live by the Ten Commandments. Good luck enforcing “Honor your father and mother.” While both are Republicans, McCain and Huckabee weigh in at completely different ends of the conservative political spectrum, so much so that McCain couldn’t win a southern state from Huckabee, because he had them convinced that God was on his side. Gee, where has that gone wrong before?

Anyways, the Constitution Ass-Wipers formerly known as Huckabee supporters are now supporting McCain “for love of party.” Interesting that these same Republicans find it necessary to keep the literal translation of the 2nd amendment, but chose to ignore and probably pissed off founding father John Adams in the process, because he said, “There is nothing I dread so much as a division of the Republic into two great parties…” Hell, McCain himself even said there’s a problem going on with party politics, yet I still see Miami Republicans proclaiming “for the party.” Evidently to some Miami Republicans our founding fathers would be okay with everyone shooting each other, but they would surely spin in their grave if party politics went the way of the dodo.
