Obama to Grow Beard and Wear Top Hat, Further Emulating Lincoln

President-Elect Obama's incredible journey to the White House all began with a proclamation, not of emancipation like his hero, but of change. Throughout the campaign trail, Mr. Obama would frequently channel good ole Honest Abe with quotations and a promise to unite a country separated by political ideology. After being elected to the highest office of the land, Obama continuously made references to Lincoln's team of rivals. He came through with his rivalry rhetoric by choosing Democratic nominee challengers from the primaries in key cabinet positions, most notably the now former Senator Clinton. This morning, Politico.com reported that Obama has decided to use Lincoln's bible for inauguration day. Now, furthering his attempts to emulate President Lincoln, President-elect Obama has decided to grow a beard and wear a top hat throughout his presidency.

While some historians and analysts have noted the risk in setting the presidential bar so high, you've got to admire the stones of a guy willing to try and match Lincoln, a man frequently ranked as the best president the United States has ever had. That's be like me promising all of my readers that I will match the satirical ability of Christopher Buckley every day, and I am not making that promise any time soon.

With inauguration day quickly approaching, it doesn't seem there's much more Obama can do to transform into Lincoln. Let's hope, however, for Michelle Obama's sake that he doesn't completely emulate Lincoln.
