The New York Giants have suspended wide-receiver Plaxico Burress for one game after he failed to show up to a team meeting or return any phone calls on Monday. It’s unclear whether the absence was due to legal complications in an ongoing domestic abuse case set forth by his wife. Tiffany Burress told police earlier last month that he had grabbed her, and filed a restraining order against him. The dispute allegedly stemmed from an incident where Plaxico was playing loud music much to his wife’s dismay. The team is disappointed about the suspension, but not particularly surprised:
"Plax is Plax. He does what he wants," Smith said yesterday. "We don't see him a lot."
Burress has a five-year $30 million with the contract with the Giants, so the suspension could end up costing him almost $450,000 in salary. Better hurry back and get your act together Plax, don’t want $30 million going down the drain just because you played your music too loud. Tiffany Burress should also encourage him to attend if she wants to get the maximum amount of cash in surely impending divorce settlement.
