Prostitution Ring Broken Up Near Yale, New Haven Loses Another Reason to Visit

Over the weekend, the New Haven Police Department busted up a prostitution ring operating out of the Fair Haven neighborhood, which is located a short distance away from Yale University.

In total, eight women were arrested after several members of the Guns and Firearms Unit posed as potential “johns” and solicited their services. The women ranged in age from 38 to 57 years old, and three of them lived within a three-block radius of the Yale Campus.

How many Yalies enjoyed their services over the past several months? No clue, but there must have been at least one – maybe two.

The Yale Daily News reports:

When the raids began, City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga told the News that City Hall includes in its press releases the names, faces, dates of birth and addresses of the individuals in order to deter their continued activity.

The NHPD hopes that its new focus on prostitution will cause a reduction in other types of criminal activity in the city like drug trafficking and domestic violence, she said.

Public humiliation is the modern-age equivalent of the guillotine. Therefore, it’s by no means more sophisticated or humane.

Still, it very well may keep them from turning tricks again, but it’s not going to stop drug trafficking.
