The McCain Acceptance Speech Video is Heroically Long, Colorful

John McCain stepped up to accept the Republican nomination for President last night on the final day of the party's national convention. The speech was less effective than say the Superbowlesque Obama event or last night Sarah Palin's experiment in truth stretching (and breaking) last night, but it did give the overall impression that McCain's a pretty decent guy.

Not only that, but this marked the first time that any Republican at the convention actually mentioned a tangible policy claim that didn't start with "d" and end with "rilling." It wasn't the direct point-by-point breakdown Obama laid out in his speech, but at least it was something. The other 98% of the speech was either made up of old war tales or John trying to steal the term "change" from Obama with brute force. I guess we threw "experience" under the a bus called Palin.

The most fun part of the speech, however, was watching the RNC's horrrendous use of the mammoth screen behind McCain. Remember when Barack Obama clinched the Democratic nomination and John McCain gave that preposterously stilted speech in front a lime green background? Well, it's back, and brighter and greener than ever. But as the internet forums lit up, the RNC eventually changed it to a shocking electric blue which was just as equally jarring. It's not that hard. A goddamn giant waving flag. That's all you need.

McCain's speech was interrupted by a few Code Pink anti-war protestors who managed to somehow sneak in undetected (they were white, that probably helped), but McCain ad-libbed a little joke that despite not making sense, had the cowboy hat-wearing delegates rolling in the eisles. Somethign about static. I don't know.

Well, there's the video, watch it if you can, but it's about as exciting as watching grass grow. And actually, you are watching grass grow because that's what the bright green background his behind him, the lawn of Walter Reed Middle School (not the hospital!).

No thoughts about McCain's pre-speech video? It was a hatchet job (as in amateur hour). Stilted writing, hollywood voiceover, over-the-top soundtrack, and way too much stock photography. At one point, they had some war veteran read out of a McCain's biography. Heh heh. And here's the clincher: that mansion in the background was supposed to be a picture of Water Reed Army Hospital, but instead is a middle school in North Hollywood. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/213806.php Posted 09/05/2008 12:27 PMReply

You Obama-ites had better get all your "digs' in now while you still have a chance. When the truth about Barak surfaces you won't have a leg to stand on. Posted 09/06/2008 12:00 AMReply
