It’s hard to find Mr. Right, particularly in New York City, where single women far outnumber single men. NYU students would agree, I’m sure. But Amy Borkowsky, a single fortysomething New Yorker, is taking matters into her own hands.
The comedian and former advertising copy writer is trying to raise money to buy a Super Bowl commercial in which she will sell… herself. The 30-second spot will basically be a glorified personal ad, but not just any personal ad. It will be a personal ad that costs a whopping $3 million.
Borkowsky started her own web site called superbowlsinglegirl.com to raise the cash, and so far she’s received about $2,000 in donations. Only $2,998,00 to go!
So why this desperate creative approach to dating? The Los Angeles Times has the scoop:
"I have a background in advertising," she notes, "and I thought I could put myself out there like a product, like a cola or SUV. Dating is a numbers game, so if you're going to run a personal ad, why not put it where the most guys will see it?"
Though Borkowsky notes cheerfully, "I have some football shirts because I like the colors," she says she is not a sports fan and knows nothing about football.
What she does know is that men enjoy watching football. The Super Bowl is expected to attract more than 60 million male viewers 18 and older.
Yes, this definitely sounds like a good investment. Still, what if, by some small, inconceivable chance Borkowsky can’t manage to raise the millions in time to buy one of the last few commercial spots left? She says she’ll donate the money the she does get to the United Way.
Not that it will come to that. In today's economy, who wouldn't want to donate their spare change to help some rando get a chance at love in the most bizarre way possible? Plus, if you donate $10,000, you get an invitation to the wedding.
