This week, the temperature in NC reaches another record-breaking high.

The response? Lethargy.

It's unbelievable how people can be so poignantly affected by the weather. When it's cold, everybody is annoyed. When it's rainy, everybody's depressed.

But when it's hot as balls cooking in an iron skillet, everybody just sort of gives up.

One trashman the other day was pulling a big garbage can towards the truch, but it tipped over and spilled everywhere. Another trashman looked at him. They looked at each other. The guilty one started to bend over to pick up the trash, but the other held up a hand and shook his head.

"**** it, man," he said aloud. "It's too ****ing hot."

Maybe our waste engineers shouldn't be the barometer to measure people's moods. Still, though, if they're not willing to go the extra mile because the heat's so bad, then WHO IS?
