The event was a bit over-the-top with women enthusiastically rushing in, grabbing their tickets for the deluxe goodie bag and giddily digging through to see what would be included this year (whitening strips, hair products, a razor, and other clutter of beauty goods).
As I navigated the space (the event was held at the Puck Building on Lafayette), I noticed that many of the vendors seemed to be selling similar -- if not, identical -- products. The jewelry and clothing proved to be especially monotonous. I mean, how much bejeweled rings and glittered dresses can one girl take?
The answer seems to be, for some, a lot. If you are a fan of stores that sell light, summer dresses like NJIT students Antonia Ptrou or Cynthia and Amanda Bayiokos, you would've had a ball swapping patterned dresses and jersey knits in the light pink Pop-Up dressing booths and playfully posing in the mirrors surrounding the area.
Many of the vendors were perfect for college-aged girls, because the price points were never too high and the lines featured bright colors, bold lines/prints and whimsical charms on necklaces, rings and bracelets.
Doucette Duvall dresses hung on two racks beside their vendor stand, where two young, attractive sales women dished on the line and offered up Blow-Pops. These dresses were especially chic and timeless, but a bit pricier than the standard fare at the event, and three of them were featured in the Sex and the City movie!
Rachel Kovalsky at Grace Hat Engineering cheerfully greeted guests as they approached her stand, modeling the line on her own crown while listing off the reasons why every girl needs a new hat. The hats are available at Anthropologie.
Recent FIT grad Sara G. Strauss was in attendance to sell her eponymous line of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and hairpieces that glittered and glowed like the sunset.
Booty Parlor is the perfect college girl beauty and skincare line, as they host sexy shopping parties for small groups, bachelorette parties, sororities, etc.. Cameron Long and NYU student, Holly Halmo, chatted me up about their role as sexy lifestyle advisors, hawking off not only Victoria's Secret-esque body creams that promise to drive up your libido but also playful bedroom accessories.
Accompanying the lustful accessories above, the pastel-infused line of underwear, boyshorts and pajamas of Elizabeth Cotton also fared well. The line was incredibly soft and, of course, comfortable. It was also extremely affordable and more original than most standard bedroom garb.
My preference for costume jewelry and fun accessories was satisfied at the Lucid New York stand. Anna Sabino selected her picks for college students, and as she explained how the line sold really well in urban areas and college towns, her flirty necklaces linked with cupcake charms and a delicate chain were shown off on a young girl jumping robe. It took some self-control for me not to leave with half the table of the "youthful" line.
