Yes, pageantry, pigeon droppings and dirt halos – a warm, accurate description of the last leg of our Warped Tour Uniondale, NY coverage.
After running around between tour buses and bumping into a bevy of half naked rockers, hormone pumped girls in turquoise VIP bracelets, and a sweat drenched Travis McCoy (Gym Class Heroes) on his lime green four-wheeler, we finally slowed down to talk to the super, fresh to death duo of Cisco Adler and Shwayze.
Some have called the Shwayze flow and beat combination indie-hip hop – Cisco proudly informed us that it’s “Hop & Roll.” Whatever you choose to call it, it’s catchy as hell, which caught the eye of reality television moguls at MTV. Buzzin’, the new MTV series starring the odd couple, chronicles the lives of the pair during Buzzin's rise to popularity. Besides being pseudo-reefer promoters, the group is committed to spreading the chill out SoCal vibe across the nation: “It’s just good times music. We hope people want to chill out and change the world” said Cisco Adler with a perfect Hollywood smile.
“This is my first tour ever,” Shwayze said, admitting to his Warped virginity. Warped is not only a place to put new names on the map but also an open venue for musicians to network, Shwayze rattled off the names new Warped Tour buddies including, Katy Perry, Beat Union, and the Gym Class Heroes.
The new single “Corona & Lime” is blazing up the charts and critical hip hop blogs, like Concrete Loop, are giving positive reviews. Cisco decided to breakdown “Corona & Lime” for us, “It’s just about a perfect combination between a drink and lime or a girl and a boy.” Perfect is right, since fans were screaming the lyrics during the stage performance that came complete with a Dirty Nasty cameo.
“We’re about to take Pharell’s position. This guy’s the hook beat man,” joked Shwayze pointing at Cisco. Observing these guys is like watching a free love, anthropomorphic version of yin and yang “…you can tell this is organic,” said Shwayze.
We dig the vibe and we dig Shwayze!
Getting a different flavor we got to play around (literally) with Tat, a London, UK trio fronted by a dreamy, rugged Tatiana DeMaria, along with Nick Kent (bass) and Jake Reed (drums). The chat was sprinkled with wayward dreams of a neon vagina, cum jokes, and a mild discussion about strap-ons.
“If I want a beer, I want a beer, said DeMaria as she eyed Jake’s light beer with disdain; she subsequently mocked him drinking a light, warm Pabst when there was plenty of “real” beer floating about.
“We fell in love with America,” said Tatiana, even though she admitted she can’t stand the tour attendants calling her dead ringer for Amy Winehouse. In her defense, she is a lot easier on the eyes then our crack songbird of the moment.
If you think this group’s as pretty as Paramore, you’re wrong: “It’s definitely balls out, legs spread, screaming into the microphone,” said Tatiana musing about being female and playing rock.
On October 28th, pick up the album and listen to the single “Sympathetic Lies” (the band fave by two votes).
By the band's request, if you happen to meet them on the tour, bring Nick “a curry” and pass around some sex too, they’re all a little sexually frustrated (I can vouch for it).
