The economy sucks. While everyone is feeling the brunt of the poor job market, those that are looking for a summer job are being hit the hardest. According to a report from Northeastern University, this summer’s job outlook is the worst in 60 years.
Despite this bleak time period, all is not lost. For those summer job seekers, one option is to work for a parent’s business. Apparently, there are lots of rewards to be reaped, including the same work experience one would gain working at a traditional company.
Although this certainly seems like a nice option, I would never choose to work for my parents. I would not be able to take them seriously as bosses. I hardly ever pay attention to their parental advice anymore. Why would I want to work for them? I would not take the job seriously either. I would probably just slack off on the job and expect them, as parents, to take care of the matter. It would be more disadvantageous than beneficial in terms of work experience, wages and professional interaction. I would rather just brave the job market and hold on to my sense of dignity.
