The marathon - a phenomenon that has riveted everyone from the ancient Greeks to P.Diddy. Since Diddy's 2003 successful NYC marathon run, it seems it's become out of fashion to run 26.2 miles for no apparent reason. Thankfully the Hash House Harriers, "a drinking club with a running problem," have combined their two favorite pastimes to make a ultra-glorious event - the 30-Pack Marathon.

CNN recently covered the Tucson's Hashers' last race. In Tucson's intolerable summer heat, the participants are mostly expert runners that know how to keep properly hydrated while managing to maintain a steady intake of beer. "Hashing"  is known as chasing hares through marked trails with meeting points at local bars. The hares are the leaders of the pack which mark the trails and the harriers are those who chase the hares to the ends of the earth to feel the sweet taste of hops on their lips.

The Tucson Hash House Harriers are part of an international club with members in 178 countries. HHH was founded in 1938 by a group of British officials and expatriates in Maylasia and although it died down during World War II, it has continued to grow since then accumulating over 19,600 members.

If this sounds far too complicated for you, Boston has come up with its own rendition of the Hashers' Beer Marathon. Although there are no cult-like rules, regulations or lingo, there is plenty of beer! The Great Boston Beer Marathon is held annually and it's a week's worth of drinking conveniently compacted into one day for your drinking pleasure. Sponsored by Guinness World Records, The GBB Marathon is known as Boston's greatest pub-crawl with a total of 26 bars in 14 hours.
