Report Suggests Colleges Need Better Security

Emo students of the world, beware! School officials have started targeting quiet loners as potential school safety threats. This contributor, however, believes that frats are to blame.
A new “report,” compiled by a team of “specialists,” criticizes the lack of security on college campuses, specifically in Massachusetts. It includes ways of improving campus safety in order to prevent another Virginia Tech-like incident.
Because the Virginia Tech gunman had mental health issues, this report urges administration and campus police to be on the lookout for students that display the same characteristics that the gunman did. This means anyone who is quiet, a loner, maybe a little weird and non-social with very few friends. The “specialists” believe that these students are more likely to commit acts of violence.
Another group of students that will be closely monitored will be graduate students since many recent school violence cases were committed by them, according to the “report.” Graduate school applicants will have to list their academic histories, criminal records and disciplinary actions.
Finally, campus officials will be trained to detect those students who might be a threat to campus safety. They will be required to start carrying guns and security cameras will be installed on many campuses.
Please convince me that there is nothing wrong with this so-called report! Right now, I can point out so many problems with it that I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, students with mental health issues are not the problem. Neither are graduate students, nor those that are quiet! If you are looking for students who are prone to violence, go to any fraternity or sorority house. From my understanding, the Greeks have more mental issues than the mentally unstable.
Also, how would providing campus police with guns help improve campus safety? You would be dealing with violence using violence. If anything, the guns would increase the violence, and more students would be hurt compared to those in a school shooting.
I agree with the recommendation of better campus safety but this “report” is crap. There are better and more effective ways of improving campus security than targeting certain groups of people and giving so-called campus police guns. Simply being kind works and will even help you make friends. And having more friends will certainly make you happier. Just ask the Greeks.

The people you need to worry about are those whose undying jealousy drives them to the brink of insanity.
So loners are the group. Too bad these things are almost impossible to prevent. These kids usually snap and go do this stuff.
The media needs to stop glorifying these people on TV. They're doing it to get the attention they never got before. Broadcasting their life story only encourage future psychos.
